BLOG#4!!!!!

Explore the video provided and reflect on the themes and questions above reflecting
on how you would curate your social media with a critical public audience.

I believe that when dealing with a critical public, I try to maintain an authentic voice and show my true personality. Transparency and honesty are crucial and I will definitely avoid trying to please everyone or conform to popular opinion if they are not in line with my values. On the other hand, I will research and understand the interests, preferences, and concerns of most public audiences. Then tailor the content accordingly to resonate with them and meet their specific needs. Learn to accept and filter criticism, because one can never please everyone, accept criticism that one considers reasonable, and filter out criticism that one considers invalid.

Identify the risks and benefits of engaging with a public audience in a media space.
Consider what the risks for a public figure or person in a position of trust (educator,
lawyer, government official) mayt be?

First of all, I think the benefits of interacting with the public in the media space outweigh the risks, that’s my personal opinion. When I interact with the public, I run the risk of receiving negative feedback, criticism, and even online harassment. This is something that cannot be avoided and as I answered in the first question, I will not be influenced by unwarranted accusations and I will only accept criticism that I believe is justified. Regarding privacy and security issues, I will handle comments and posts that involve my privacy with care. The gain is that engaging with the public exposes me to different viewpoints, feedback, and constructive criticism. Engaging in discussion with an audience can broaden my understanding and help me refine my ideas or arguments, which I believe can contribute to my personal development. I think public figures are more vulnerable to reputational damage because their actions and statements are subject to public scrutiny and scrutiny. Suppose a celebrity insults a homeless person on the street (ignoring the specific reason for the moment) and it happens that the scene is recorded on video by a passerby who knows the celebrity and posted on social media platforms, the celebrity will be reprimanded and criticized by countless viewers. However, such things happen every day, no one would just film and record an unknown person verbally abusing a homeless person on the street, and even if they did and posted it on social media platforms, no one would pay attention to it, and I don’t think a real experiment is needed to prove anything, it’s always right to think the worst about human nature.

How to best address negative replies and critiques reflective of your personal values and employer social media policy?

I think it’s important to maintain a calm and collected demeanor when responding to negative responses or criticism. Avoid responding impulsively or emotionally, as this can make the situation worse. Also, it is important to assess the effectiveness of negative responses by accepting constructive feedback and automatically ignoring personal attacks or biased responses.

Open dialogues about media literacy and factual information can create conflict, why does this happen?

I believe there are two main reasons for the conflict: First, media literacy skills are critical to critically evaluating information and sources. However, many media professionals lack these skills, which makes navigating a complex media environment challenging. On the other hand, the prevalence of misinformation and disinformation in the media space further complicates open dialogue. When there are cognitive biases on both sides of the conversation, it can be difficult to discern what is true and what is not, making it difficult to sustain the conversation.

What is the benefit of having a PLN that values media literacy?

Collaborative learning opportunities can be facilitated through PLNs that emphasize media literacy. The platform allows members to share resources, discuss current topics and engage in critical conversations. Interacting with knowledgeable peers deepens my understanding and broadens my perspectives for me. On the other hand, I can develop my critical thinking skills in the face of positive and critical comments and responses.

Nice work, your writing let me think a lot. I saw you said that you don’t cater to everyone. I think it’s courageous, but I’d like to ask you if you’re afraid of conflict and how you can resolve it.

I really like the way you responded to the negative responses. Your take on the pros and cons of public interaction in social media is a good example of the phrase “the internet is a double-edged sword”. Great blog!

    Hi, Tian,
You have done a great job on your blog. I couldn’t agree more with your point . Here. I really agree with what you said “It is important to maintain a calm and composed demeanor when dealing with negative reactions.” When we receive criticism from others, because of the deviation of the written expression and the other people’s worse attitude. We are not easy to accept, and will be filled anger emotion on our mind. Thus, people make bad decisions in this emotional situation, and it’s usually hard to undo it.
